Environmental Commitment?

Everyone is jumping on the "eco-friendly" bandwagon and unfortunately the majority of these earth friendly businesses are deceiving their customers. To be truly environmentally conscious takes not only time, money, and effort but devotion. You cannot just slap the label on your business and call it a day. A truly green business practice requires constant research and testing.

I could save myself a lot of time (and money) if I went to a large corporate store like Walmart and purchased all of my supplies there. However, by doing that I am supporting unethical exploitation of not only the environment but people as well.

I take pride in my practice as I will ensure that the Egotised Creations carbon foot print is tiny.

What we do differently (just a small sample)

Recycle & Reconstruct:

  • I love the idea of taking unwanted, broken, and discarded bits and pieces of vintage jewelry to create a brand new one-of-a-kind treasure. Not only do you get to wear a piece of history through these vintage pieces but you keep the land fill clear of these items.
  • Reconstructing jewelry friends, family, and customers no longer want.
  • Putting recycled cardboard to use to create 3 dimensional art.
  • Using recycled items to create texture on canvas.
  • Creating frames from scrap metal and wood.

Reusing:

  • Reusing vintage, broken, and discarded jewelry.
  • Using canvas found at the Reuse Center.
  • Reusing dried paint to create new images.

Purchasing Practice:

  • Buying locally to support local vendors.
  • Purchasing stones and beads from responsible/ethical retailers.

Important Note:
  • Red and pink coral are disappearing at alarming rates because of overfishing to create jewelry. We will no longer be creating new pieces that contain coral stone. Furthermore, we have never purchased from coral vendors (who purchase from these fisheries) as all of our jewelry was created using recycled and fair trade materials. Regardless, as of Jan 2010 we are coral free.
